Ingredients
- 340 yards (310 meters) of worsted weight (weight 4, medium) yarn in chosen colors
- H-8 (5.0 mm) hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Optional: Stitch markers
Instructions
- Start by making a foundation chain of 30 stitches. Be mindful to keep it loose so your base doesn’t pull tight.
- In the second chain from the hook, work a single crochet (sc) into each chain across. You should have 29 sc at the end of this row.
- Turn your work. For row 2, chain 2 (this counts as your first double crochet (dc)), then work 1 dc into each stitch across. Your count should remain at 29.
- Row 3 starts with chaining 2 as before, followed by another dc into the first stitch. For the next stitch, work your first bobble stitch: yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 left on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops to complete the bobble.
- Proceed with this pattern: for the next stitch make another bobble, then work 2 dc, then another bobble—repeat this until you reach the last stitch.
- Continue with alternating rows of bobbles and dc while keeping an eye on your stitch count. Adjust as needed if you feel something is off.
- Keep crocheting this way for about 10 more rows or until you reach the desired height of 12 inches (30 cm).
- Once you’ve finished, carefully finish off the yarn, leaving a long tail for weaving. Weave in your ends, securing any loose threads. If desired, block your piece by laying it flat to keep its shape.
Notes
Don’t skip the gauge swatch, as it can save you from unexpected surprises later. Just a bit of time spent on this can ensure that your finished hanging turns out at the right size and shape.
