A fun and engaging DIY project for creating beautiful autumn-themed art using broccoli as a stamp.

Ingredients

  • Heavyweight paper (watercolor paper works beautifully)
  • Brown paint (acrylic or tempera)
  • Red paint (acrylic or tempera)
  • Orange paint (acrylic or tempera)
  • Yellow paint (acrylic or tempera)
  • Fresh broccoli, cut into florets
  • A paintbrush (flat or round)
  • A shallow plate or palette for paint
  • A cup of water
  • Paper towels for clean-up

Instructions

  1. Begin by preparing your workspace. Lay down some newspapers or an old tablecloth to catch any spills.
  2. Take your brown paint and dip your brush into it. Apply the paint to the paper, creating a trunk and branches for your tree.
  3. Set the brown paint aside to dry for a few moments.
  4. Once the brown is dry, prepare your palette with the other colors.
  5. Next, take a broccoli floret and dip it into one of the colors. Press down gently onto the paper.
  6. Clean the floret with a damp paper towel after each color to keep your colors distinct and vibrant.
  7. Continue until you’ve filled your trees with a beautiful mix of colors.
  8. Allow the finished piece to dry.

This project is suitable for all ages and encourages creativity. Experiment with different vegetables for varied textures.
