Ingredients
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup water
- Food coloring in one or more colors
- One large mixing bowl
- Several smaller mixing bowls
- Paintbrushes
- Paper
- Vinegar for the fizzing reaction
Instructions
- Make the baking soda paste by adding 1/2 cup of baking soda to a mixing bowl. Pour in 1/4 cup of water and stir until the ingredients form a smooth, spreadable paste.
- Spoon the paste into several smaller bowls according to how many colors you want to create.
- Place a few drops of food coloring into each bowl and stir thoroughly until the color is evenly distributed. Add more food coloring for brighter shades if desired.
- Dip a paintbrush into one of the colored mixtures and paint onto the paper to create designs.
- Spray the painted areas with vinegar to create the fizzing effect.
- Allow the paper to dry flat in a safe place until completely dry.
- Display the finished artwork.
Notes
Because the finished artwork contains baking soda residue, it is best used as a display piece rather than for any handling or food contact.
