This pumpkin bucket grows from a simple crocheted base into a little seasonal treasure, ready for trick-or-treating, a fall porch, or a festive gathering.

  • Total Time: 300 minutes

Ingredients

  • Worsted weight cotton yarn, weight 4 medium, about 320 total yards (or two 170-yard skeins)
  • H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Small scissors
  • Stitch marker (optional)
  • Tape measure
  • 24 iridescent craft pearls
  • 18 flat-back rhinestones
  • 2 pieces 4 inches satin ribbon
  • Polyester fiberfill, about 2 ounces (optional)
  • Fabric-safe needle and matching thread

Instructions

  1. Make a magic ring with yarn.
  2. Work 6 single crochets into the ring and pull the tail to close the center. (Round 1: 6 sc)
  3. For Round 2, work 2 sc in each stitch around. (Round 2: 12 sc)
  4. For Round 3, repeat 1 sc in the next stitch, then 2 sc in the following stitch around. (Round 3: 18 sc)
  5. For Round 4, repeat 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, then 2 sc in the next stitch around. (Round 4: 24 sc)
  6. For Round 5, repeat 1 sc in each of the next 3 stitches, then 2 sc in the next stitch around. (Round 5: 30 sc)
  7. For Round 6, repeat 1 sc in each of the next 4 stitches, then 2 sc in the next stitch around. (Round 6: 36 sc)
  8. For Round 7, repeat 1 sc in each of the next 5 stitches, then 2 sc in the next stitch around. (Round 7: 42 sc)
  9. For Round 8, repeat 1 sc in each of the next 6 stitches, then 2 sc in the next stitch around. (Round 8: 48 sc)
  10. For Rounds 9 through 16, work 1 sc in each stitch around with no increases. Each round has 48 sc.
  11. For Round 17, work 1 sc in each of the next 5 stitches, then sc2tog around. (Round 17: 42 sc)
  12. For Round 18, work 1 sc in each stitch around. (Round 18: 42 sc)
  13. Finish with a slip stitch in the first stitch, cut the yarn leaving a 6-inch tail, and pull the tail through the loop.
  14. Make the handle with a foundation chain: join yarn at one side of the rim, chain 32, and attach the chain to the opposite side with a slip stitch.
  15. Work back along the chain with 31 slip stitches, then attach at the starting side.
  16. Weave in the ends by threading each tail onto the yarn needle and passing it through several stitches on the wrong side.
  17. Decorate the bucket by sewing pearls around the upper rim and scattering the rhinestones across the front. Tie two small satin bows and stitch them to the handle or front edge.

Notes

When using this for a child, avoid loose small parts and long loose stitches due to safety concerns.
