Ingredients
- 1 sheet of 140-pound, 8 by 10 inch cold-press watercolor paper
- 6 to 10 sheets of bleeding tissue paper in assorted colors, each about 10 by 20 inches
- 1 small watercolor or craft brush, about 1/2 inch wide
- 1 small cup holding 4 fluid ounces of clean water
- 1 pair of scissors, 6 to 8 inches long (optional)
- 1 pencil, standard size (optional)
- 1 sheet of wax paper, at least 12 by 16 inches
- 1 plastic table cover or drop cloth, at least 2 by 3 feet
- 2 paper towels, standard size
- 1 pair of reusable nitrile or household gloves (optional)
- 1 small flat board or piece of cardboard, about 12 by 16 inches (optional)
Instructions
- Cover your table with the 2 by 3 foot drop cloth.
- Set the 8 by 10 inch watercolor paper on the flat board or cardboard, over a sheet of wax paper.
- Choose 6 to 10 tissue paper sheets in colors that sit comfortably together.
- Tear or cut the tissue into pieces between 1 and 3 inches wide.
- Dip the brush into the clean water, then brush a thin layer across one section of the watercolor paper.
- Lay the first tissue pieces onto the damp area and press gently with your fingertips.
- Brush a little more water over the tissue pieces, working from the center toward the edges.
- Add the next colors while the first pieces remain damp, overlapping only a small part if desired.
- Let the tissue sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Lift one corner of the tissue paper and peel each piece away slowly.
- Look at the dried areas before adding anything else; cover pale areas with new tissue if necessary.
- Let the artwork dry flat for 2 to 4 hours.
- Clean the brush in cool water and wipe the board with a damp paper towel.
Notes
Wear gloves if your skin reacts to colored paper. Keep the water cup away from food and wipe spills promptly.
- Cook Time: 45 minutes
