Create beautiful suncatchers using pressed flowers and clear glue. This beginner-friendly craft allows you to layer flowers and glue, letting them dry to form a unique decoration that brightens any window.

  • Total Time: 1440 minutes

Ingredients

  • 8 fluid ounces clear-drying school glue (washable, non-toxic type)
  • 6 to 10 small pressed flowers (1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches wide)
  • 1 piece of smooth plastic sheet (8 inches by 8 inches)
  • 1 sheet of white paper (8 inches by 8 inches)
  • 1 small flat paintbrush (about 1/2 inch wide)
  • 1 wooden craft stick (5 inches long)
  • 1 piece of cotton cord (8 inches long)
  • 1 small paper cup (3 fluid ounces)
  • 1 pair of small scissors (5 to 6 inches long)
  • 1 ruler (12 inches long)
  • 1 pencil
  • 1 roll of painter's tape (3/4 inch wide)
  • 1 plastic table covering (at least 18 inches by 24 inches)
  • 1 pair of disposable nitrile gloves (optional)
  • 1 clean lint-free cloth (about 12 inches square)

Instructions

  1. Cover your table before you open the glue to avoid sticky spots.
  2. Lay the plastic sheet over the white paper and tape the corners to keep the working surface flat.
  3. Wipe the plastic with the lint-free cloth to ensure a clean surface.
  4. Use the ruler and pencil to mark a loose 5-inch circle on the paper beneath the plastic as a guide.
  5. Pour 2 fluid ounces of clear glue into the paper cup. Dip the brush lightly and spread a thin circle of glue over the guide, leaving about 1/4 inch between the glue edge and the pencil line.
  6. Place the pressed flowers onto the wet glue, leaving clear space between them.
  7. Let the first layer rest for about 20 minutes until it feels tacky but not wet.
  8. Brush a second thin layer of glue over the flowers and the spaces between them.
  9. Cut the cotton cord in half to make two 4-inch pieces and tie them together at their centers for a hanging loop.
  10. Set the knot at the top edge of the wet glue circle and brush a small amount of glue over the cord ends.
  11. Look for bubbles or uneven spots and address them with the craft stick as needed.
  12. Leave the suncatcher flat and undisturbed for 24 to 48 hours to allow it to dry completely.
  13. Once dry, gently peel the glue shape from the plastic, beginning at one edge. Trim any glue strings with scissors.
  14. Clean the brush and cup with warm water while the glue is still wet.

Notes

Safety notes: Be cautious of choking risks with small items. Children 6 and older can assist under close adult supervision but avoid direct handling of scissors and cleanup.
