Ingredients
- Worsted weight yarn (weight 4 medium) in yellow, orange, and white – about 130 yards total
- Yellow worsted weight yarn – about 45 yards (26 g)
- Orange worsted weight yarn – about 45 yards (26 g)
- White worsted weight yarn – about 40 yards (24 g)
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Polyester fiberfill – about 2 ounces (57 g)
- Two 9 mm safety eyes or black embroidery thread
- Yarn needle
- Sharp scissors
- One stitch marker (optional)
- Tape measure (optional)
Instructions
- With yellow yarn, make a magic ring. Work 6 sc into the ring, then pull the yarn tail to close the center. Join with a sl st to the first sc, place your marker in the first stitch of the next round.
- Round 2: Work 2 sc in each stitch around. You now have 12 stitches.
- Round 3: Work 1 sc in the first stitch, then 2 sc in the next stitch, repeating around. You now have 18 stitches.
- Round 4: Work sc in the first 2 stitches, then 2 sc in the next stitch, repeating around. You now have 24 stitches.
- Round 5: Work sc in the first 3 stitches, then 2 sc in the next stitch, repeating around. You now have 30 stitches.
- Rounds 6 through 10: Work 1 sc in each stitch around for 5 rounds, keeping 30 stitches in every round.
- Change to orange at the end of Round 10.
- Rounds 11 through 15: Work 1 sc in each stitch around for 5 rounds, keeping 30 stitches in each round.
- Attach the safety eyes between Rounds 12 and 13, placing them about 7 stitches apart.
- Change to white at the end of Round 15.
- Rounds 16 through 20: Work 1 sc in each stitch around for 5 rounds, keeping 30 stitches in each round. Begin adding small handfuls of polyester fiberfill after Round 18.
- Round 21: Work sc in the next 3 stitches, then make one decrease over the next 2 stitches, repeating around. You now have 24 stitches.
- Round 22: Work sc in the next 2 stitches, then make one decrease over the next 2 stitches, repeating around. You now have 18 stitches.
- Round 23: Work 1 sc in the first stitch, then make one decrease over the next 2 stitches, repeating around. You now have 12 stitches.
- Round 24: Work one decrease over the next 2 stitches around. You now have 6 stitches.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a 10-inch tail. Thread the tail onto a yarn needle, weave it through the front loops of the remaining 6 stitches, and pull gently to close the opening. Weave in the yellow and orange ends as well.
- Shape the plushie with your hands, pressing the stuffing into any hollow spots.
Notes
If using safety eyes, keep all small parts secure and away from children under three. Adjust colors and yarn thickness to customize the plushie.
