Ingredients
- 1 bottle, 8 fluid ounces, clear-drying craft glue
- 6 to 10 small pressed or fully dried flowers, each about 1/2 inch to 1 inch wide
- 1 sheet of wax paper, at least 12 inches by 12 inches
- 1 sheet of plain paper, at least 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches
- 1 pencil, any standard writing pencil
- 1 small paintbrush, about 1/4 inch wide
- 1 wooden toothpick
- 1 pair of small scissors
- 1 piece of ribbon, 12 inches long and 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch wide
- 1 small piece of painter's tape, about 6 inches long
- 1 small plastic or glass dish, about 4 inches wide
- 1 disposable table covering, at least 18 inches by 24 inches
- 1 pair of nitrile or household craft gloves, optional
- 1 small ruler, at least 6 inches long
Instructions
- Cover your table with a drop cloth or opened paper grocery bag to prevent glue spots.
- Set the wax paper on top and secure two corners with painter's tape so it stays flat.
- Draw a heart on the plain paper that measures about 4 inches wide by 4 inches tall. Cut it out and place it under the wax paper.
- Choose six to ten dry flowers and lay them beside the template. Trim long stems with the scissors.
- Pour about 2 fluid ounces of clear glue into the small dish. Use the paintbrush to trace the heart outline on the wax paper, then fill the middle with a thin, even layer.
- Place the flowers into the wet glue while it still looks milky. Press each petal gently with the toothpick.
- Add another thin layer of glue over the flowers, brushing from the center toward the edges.
- Look for air bubbles, touch the edge with the toothpick and guide them toward the outside of the heart.
- Let the heart rest on the level table for about 2 hours before checking it.
- Once the first layer feels firm but slightly tacky, brush on a final thin coat.
- Allow the heart to dry for 24 to 36 hours.
- Test the heart by lifting one corner of the wax paper and check the back for loose strings or sharp dried points.
- Cut the 12-inch ribbon in half to make a 6-inch hanging loop and tie it through the upper dip of the heart.
