Ingredients
- 8 fluid ounces of clear-drying school glue (or clear-drying craft glue that dries transparent)
- 6 to 10 small pressed flowers and leaves (each no larger than 1.5 inches across)
- 1 piece of smooth plastic, 8 inches by 8 inches (such as a clear sheet protector or reusable plastic folder)
- 1 piece of parchment paper, 8 inches by 8 inches (optional protective layer)
- 1 small flat paintbrush, about 1/2 inch wide
- 1 wooden toothpick
- 1 pair of fine-tip tweezers (optional)
- 12 inches of cotton twine, 1/16 inch thick
- 1 small pair of scissors
- 1 disposable plastic cup, 8 fluid ounces
- 1 wooden craft stick
- 1 plastic table covering, at least 24 inches by 24 inches
- 1 pair of disposable nitrile gloves (optional)
- 1 small clean weight, about 2 to 4 ounces (such as a smooth stone or jar lid)
- 1 small soft cloth, about 8 inches by 8 inches
Instructions
- Cover your table with a plastic table covering to protect it from glue.
- Wipe the plastic sheet with the soft cloth to remove any dust.
- Pour about 4 fluid ounces of clear glue into the disposable cup and stir it slowly with the craft stick until even.
- Brush a thin oval layer of glue onto the center of the plastic sheet, making it about 3.5 inches wide.
- Arrange the pressed flowers while the glue is wet, placing larger flowers near the center and smaller ones around them.
- Use the toothpick or tweezers to press down any lifted edges of the flowers.
- Brush another thin layer of glue over the flowers and the surrounding edge without forming a deep puddle.
- Cut the 12-inch piece of cotton twine in half, and fold one piece into a loop, placing the cut ends into the wet glue.
- Brush a small amount of glue over the twine ends and place a clean weight over them to hold them in place while drying.
- Let the suncatcher dry flat for 12 hours and then add a final thin layer of glue over the whole shape.
- Allow the finished suncatcher to dry flat for another 24 to 36 hours.
- Peel the finished piece from the plastic sheet and trim any long, wispy glue strings.
- Hang the suncatcher from the twine in a bright window.
Notes
Keep the suncatcher away from unprotected wood windowsills and out of direct sun exposure to avoid yellowing. Dust with a dry cloth only.
