  • Total Time: 480 minutes

Ingredients

  • Worsted weight yarn (weight 4, medium), preferably smooth acrylic, about 420 yards total or 3 skeins of about 140 yards each, in blue, yellow, black, and a small amount of skin-tone yarn
  • G-6 (4.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Polyester fiberfill, about 3 ounces (85 g)
  • Yarn needle with a large eye
  • Small sharp scissors
  • Two 9 mm safety eyes (optional)
  • Small scraps of black and yellow felt (optional)
  • Two stitch markers (optional)
  • Tape measure

Instructions

  1. Begin with a magic ring and work 6 sc into it. Tighten the ring.
  2. Work 2 sc in each stitch around for an increase round, giving you 12 stitches.
  3. Continue with an increase pattern: 1 sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the following stitch, repeated around for 18 stitches.
  4. Work 1 sc in each stitch around for 24 stitches for the next 5 rounds.
  5. Work 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, then make a decrease over the next 2 stitches, repeating around for 18 stitches.
  6. Work 1 sc in the next stitch, then decrease over the next 2 stitches, repeating around for 12 stitches. Add the safety eyes between rounds 7 and 8.
  7. Stuff the head firmly but gently with fiberfill.
  8. Decrease over the next 2 stitches around for 6 stitches. Fasten off with a long tail.
  9. For the body, make a new magic ring and work 6 sc into it. Increase around to 12 stitches.
  10. Work 1 sc in each stitch around for 4 rounds.
  11. Increase evenly to 18 stitches by working 2 sc in every third stitch.
  12. Work 1 sc in each stitch around for 8 rounds. Change to yellow yarn for the shirt.
  13. Work 4 rounds in yellow, keeping 18 stitches.
  14. Taper the lower body by working 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, then decrease over the next 2 stitches, repeating around for 14 stitches.
  15. Work 1 sc in each stitch around for 2 rounds, adding fiberfill as the body narrows.
  16. Close the body by decreasing over the next 2 stitches around for 7 stitches.
  17. Fasten off with a long tail. Sew the head to the body with small stitches.
  18. For each arm, make a magic ring and work 6 sc into it. Work 1 sc in each stitch around for 8 rounds, then decrease over the next 2 stitches three times.
  19. Add a very small amount of fiberfill and sew them closed. Attach the arms at the sides of the yellow shirt.
  20. For each leg, make a magic ring and work 6 sc into it. Increase around to 12 stitches, then work 1 sc in each stitch around for 5 rounds. Change to black yarn.
  21. Work 3 rounds in black, stuff lightly, flatten the top, and sew each leg to the bottom of the body.
  22. Cut short lengths of black yarn for hair and attach them across the head. Add facial features with yarn or felt.
  23. Weave in the ends and trim excess yarn.
  24. Gently reshape the finished doll by hand.

Notes

The doll is suitable for advanced beginners. Use acrylic yarn for easy washing. Ensure safety for young children by avoiding small parts.
