Ingredients
- 2 sheets of orange crepe paper
- 2 sheets of yellow crepe paper
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Silicone adhesive
- Craft ribbon or cord
Instructions
- Arrange the orange sheets. Keep each orange sheet in the folded form in which it came from the stationery shop. Shape the two ends into soft, rounded waves. Avoid sharp creases while making the curves, since they can create uneven edges when the paper is opened.
- Open the sheets on a flat surface. Unfold each orange sheet and lay it flat so the wavy edges are visible. Smooth it gently with your hands. Do not pull the crepe paper taut; stretching it can distort the waves.
- Fold each sheet into smaller sections. Fold each orange sheet in half, then in half again, and fold it in half a third time. Align the edges carefully at every fold. Even edges help the flower cutouts repeat more consistently across the opened sheet.
- Fold diagonally and mark a petal. Fold the paper diagonally to form a triangle. On the diagonal edge, use a pencil to draw half of a petal. Keep the line curved rather than angular for a softer flower shape. Make sure the marked curve is positioned so it will not cut away the folded edges that need to stay connected.
- Cut along the curve. Use scissors to cut along the pencil line. Take small, controlled snips around the curve. Keep the folded layers together as you cut, but don’t squeeze them so tightly that the paper slides or tears.
- Open the orange paper. Carefully unfold the sheet to reveal the flower shapes and wavy edges. Open it a little at a time, supporting the folds with your hands. If a section feels stuck, loosen it gently rather than pulling the paper apart.
- Repeat for the second orange sheet. Use the same folding and cutting process on the other orange sheet so you have two matching orange curtains. If the first one looks different from what you expected, adjust the pencil curve on the second sheet before cutting.
- Add the yellow backing. Place one yellow sheet behind each orange curtain. Arrange the layers so the yellow is visible through or around the orange design, as desired. Keep the paper flat while positioning it.
- Secure the layers with silicone. Apply silicone adhesive to attach each orange curtain to its yellow backing. Use small amounts and keep the glue away from areas where it would be visible through the paper. Press the layers together gently and allow the adhesive to set according to its package instructions.
- Display the curtains. Use the finished pair to decorate an altar, a door, or a window. The listed craft ribbon or cord may help with hanging or display, depending on your setup. Avoid placing the paper near heat, flames, or damp areas.
Notes
These paper curtains are especially suited to seasonal home décor and are made from delicate crepe paper, so treat them as temporary indoor decorations.
