Ingredients
- Worsted weight yarn, weight 4 medium, about 60 yards total (less than one 170-yard per 100 g skein)
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Small sharp scissors
- Tape measure
- One lightweight breakaway cat collar for fitting the finished bandana
- One optional stitch marker
Instructions
- Make a foundation chain of 3 chains, keeping these chains relaxed.
- Row 1: Work 2 double crochet in the third chain from the hook. Turn your work.
- Row 2: Chain 2 for the turning chain, work 2 double crochet in the first stitch, 1 double crochet in each stitch across, then work 2 double crochet in the last stitch. Turn.
- Row 3: Chain 2, work 2 double crochet in the first stitch, 1 double crochet in each stitch across, and 2 double crochet in the last stitch. Turn.
- Row 4: Chain 2, work 2 double crochet in the first stitch, 1 double crochet in each stitch across, and 2 double crochet in the last stitch. Turn.
- Rows 5 through 10: Repeat Row 4 six times, check shape before continuing.
- For the border, chain 1 and work single crochet evenly around the two sloping sides and the top edge.
- Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet. Cut the yarn, leaving a 5-inch tail.
- Weave in the ends with a yarn needle.
- Test the bandana on the collar before giving it to your cat.
Notes
Watch the bandana during use. Small parts, loose stitches, and long loose ends can be unsafe for children under three and may also tempt a curious pet. Never leave a cat wearing it unattended.
