Ingredients
- About 80 yards of worsted weight cotton yarn (weight 4 medium)
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle for weaving in the ends
- Small sharp scissors
- Tape measure for checking gauge and finished size
- One stitch marker (optional)
Instructions
- Make a magic ring or chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to form a small ring.
- Chain 1, then work 6 single crochet stitches into the magic ring.
- Pull the magic ring closed and join the round with a slip stitch into the first single crochet.
- Chain 1. Work 2 single crochet stitches into every stitch around and join with a slip stitch.
- Chain 1. Work 1 single crochet in the first stitch, then 2 single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat around and join with a slip stitch.
- Chain 1. Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, then 2 single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat around and join with a slip stitch.
- Chain 1. Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 3 stitches, then 2 single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat around and join with a slip stitch.
- Chain 1. Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 4 stitches, then 2 single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat around and join with a slip stitch.
- Chain 1. Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 5 stitches, then 2 single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat around and join with a slip stitch.
- Check your work before fastening off. Look for missing stitches.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a tail about 6 inches long. Pull the tail through the final loop.
- Weave the end through several stitches on the wrong side and trim the excess. Weave in the starting tail the same way.
- Make three more coasters using the same instructions.
- If needed, wet the pieces with cool water, press gently in a towel, and block them flat into circles. Let them dry completely.
Notes
Ensure that if you use acrylic, you block it cold or with steam held at a distance as acrylic can melt under heat. Avoid using small parts or loose stitches for child-safe versions.
