Ingredients
- Worsted weight yarn, weight 4 medium, cotton or cotton-acrylic blend, about 120 yards total, usually less than one 170-yard per 100 g skein (one solid color or two colors)
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle for weaving in the ends
- Scissors
- One stitch marker, optional
- Tape measure
- Small piece of scrap yarn, optional for checking collar fit
Instructions
- Begin with a foundation chain of 3 chains, abbreviated ch.
- Row 1: Work 2 double crochet, or dc, into the third chain from your hook. Chain 2 and turn.
- Row 2: Work 2 double crochet in the first stitch, then 1 double crochet in each stitch across, and 2 double crochet in the last stitch. Chain 2 and turn.
- Row 3: Work 2 double crochet in the first stitch. Work 1 double crochet in each stitch across. Work 2 double crochet in the last stitch. Chain 2 and turn.
- Rows 4 through 10: Repeat the same increase pattern. Count the double crochet at the ends of Rows 4 through 10 as 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20.
- Rows 11 through 14: Continue the same sequence, increasing at both ends of every row. The counts are 22, 24, 26, and 28 double crochet.
- For a neat top edge, chain 1, then work 1 slip stitch, or sl st, into each stitch across the final row. Fasten off with a 6-inch tail.
- Weave in the ends with your yarn needle.
- Block the bandana if the cotton looks uneven by shaping it damp and letting it dry in place.
Notes
Always check the fit often, keep the tie secure but loose enough for comfort, and remove the piece for a crate, car ride, sleep, or active play. Do not leave a dog wearing the bandana unattended if they chew fabric.
- Cook Time: 180 minutes
