- Two 9 mm safety eyes or embroidered eyes
- Yarn needle with a rounded tip
- Sharp scissors
- Two stitch markers (optional)
- Tape measure
- One scrap of smooth yarn for temporary marking (optional)
Instructions
- Make the body base by forming a magic ring and crocheting 6 sc into the ring.
- Pull the yarn tail gently to close the center and place your marker in the first stitch.
- Work 2 sc in each stitch around for Round 2, resulting in 12 stitches.
- Continue with 1 sc in each stitch for Round 3, keeping 12 stitches.
- For Round 4, repeat sc in the next stitch, then 2 sc in the next stitch around for 18 stitches.
- For Round 5, repeat sc in the next 2 stitches, then increase in the next stitch around for 24 stitches.
- Work 1 sc in each stitch for Rounds 6 through 10, maintaining 24 stitches.
- In Round 11, repeat sc in the next 2 stitches, then sc2tog around to have 18 stitches.
- Work 1 sc in each stitch for Round 12, keeping 18 stitches.
- For Round 13, repeat sc in the next 2 stitches, then increase in the next stitch around for 24 stitches.
- Work 1 sc in each stitch for Rounds 14 through 17, keeping 24 stitches.
- Insert safety eyes between Rounds 15 and 16, about 6 stitches apart.
- Begin light stuffing after Round 17, adding small amounts of fiberfill.
- For Round 18, repeat sc in the next 2 stitches, then sc2tog around for 18 stitches.
- Round 19 is sc2tog around for 9 stitches.
- Add the last bit of stuffing, fasten off, and sew the opening closed with your yarn needle.
- For each leg, chain 7, then make 1 sc in the second chain from the hook and in each remaining chain.
- Work 5 more rows of sc, keeping 6 stitches in each row.
- Fold the leg piece lengthwise, stitch the long edges together, and leave the top open for sewing. Make four legs.
- For the ears, chain 8, then sc across for 7 stitches, followed by 4 rows of sc.
- Decrease at both ends of the next row by making sc2tog at the beginning and end, for 5 stitches. Make a second ear.
- For the tail, chain 10, then sc in the second chain from the hook and across for 9 stitches.
- Work 3 rows of sc, then fasten off and sew the tail to the back of the body.
- Make the ghost drape by creating a magic ring and crocheting 6 sc into it, then increasing in every stitch for Round 2, and 2 sc in each stitch around for Round 3.
- Slip stitch into the next stitch, fasten off, and leave a long tail.
- Pin the legs to ensure the dog can sit level, and sew them on accordingly.
- Sew the ears near the top sides of the head, then add a small embroidered nose with charcoal yarn.
- Weave in every yarn tail and finalize the piece.
