Ingredients
- Worsted weight yarn (weight 4, medium), white or ivory, about 120 yards
- Small amount of worsted weight yarn (weight 4, medium) in pale gray, black, or another accent color
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Polyester fiberfill, about 2 ounces (57 g)
- Two 9 mm safety eyes
- Yarn needle with a large eye
- Small scissors
- One stitch marker (optional)
- Tape measure
- Black embroidery thread or small amount of black worsted weight yarn for the nose and mouth
Instructions
- Make a magic ring and chain 1, then work 6 single crochet into the ring.
- Round 2: Work 2 single crochet in each stitch around for 12 stitches.
- Round 3: Repeat 1 sc in the next stitch, then 2 sc in the next stitch around for 18 stitches.
- Round 4: Repeat 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, then 2 sc in the next stitch around for 24 stitches.
- Rounds 5 through 9: Work 1 sc in each stitch around with 24 stitches.
- Round 10: Repeat 1 sc in each of the next 3 stitches, then 2 sc in the next stitch around for 30 stitches.
- Rounds 11 through 16: Work 1 sc in each stitch around with 30 stitches. Insert safety eyes between Rounds 9 and 10.
- Round 17: Repeat 1 sc in each of the next 3 stitches, then sc2tog for 24 stitches.
- Begin stuffing after Round 17.
- Round 18: Repeat 1 sc in the next 2 stitches, then sc2tog for 18 stitches.
- Round 19: Repeat 1 sc in the next stitch, then sc2tog for 12 stitches.
- Round 20: Work sc2tog for 6 stitches. Cut the yarn, leaving an 8-inch tail, and weave through the front loops of the remaining stitches.
- Make two ears by chaining 7 and working 1 sc in each chain across for 6 stitches. Repeat this row once more, then fasten off.
- Sew the ears beside each eye on the puppy's head.
- Embroider the face with black thread for the nose and mouth.
- Weave in any remaining ends.
Notes
For children under three, avoid loose buttons and detachable eyes; use embroidered features instead.
