The Stitch Club Crochet Log Cabin Blanket is built one block at a time, featuring a distinctive log cabin layout with bands of color. This chunky yarn project is perfect for crocheters looking to enhance their skills while creating a cozy blanket.

Ingredients

  • Bernat® Softee® Chunkyâ„¢, 3.5 oz/100 g per ball; 108 yds/99 m per ball:
  • 4 balls Contrast A, Lilac (28809)
  • 4 balls Contrast B, Natural (28008)
  • 4 balls Contrast C, Faded Denim (28114)
  • 4 balls Contrast D, Gray Rose (28800)
  • Crochet hook: U.S. L/11 (8 mm)
  • Tape measure (optional)
  • Stitch markers (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Instructions

  1. Begin the first block with Contrast A. Make 16 chains. In the third chain from the hook, work 1 hdc. Work 1 hdc in each remaining chain to the end of the foundation chain.
  2. Work the first color section. Chain 2, then work 1 hdc in each hdc across the row. Repeat this row until the work measures approximately 6 inches, ending on a wrong-side row. Break the yarn.
  3. Continue the first block with Contrast B. Join B as directed by the original pattern, then repeat the same hdc row until the work measures approximately 12 inches. End on a wrong-side row and fasten off.
  4. Join Contrast C. Attach C with a slip stitch as directed. Check that the color has been joined at the intended edge before beginning the next block.
  5. Turn the work to start the second block. Turn the piece 90 degrees. With C, chain 2, then work 27 hdc evenly across the edge. Spread the stitches along the side so they are neither crowded nor pulled too far apart.
  6. Build the second block. Repeat the hdc row until this section measures approximately 6 inches. Fasten off, then join Contrast D with a slip stitch.
  7. Continue with blocks 3 through 12. Follow the original pattern’s specific instructions for each numbered block. Turn the work and join each color where directed. Use the stitch count given for that block, and fasten off and join the next color as stated.
  8. Assemble the numbered blocks. Follow the provided diagram to confirm the order and position of every block. The diagram is essential for the intended log cabin arrangement; use it to check orientation before fastening or joining sections permanently.
  9. Finish the blanket. Fasten off at the end of each block and complete the joins as instructed in the full pattern. Weave in yarn ends securely on the wrong side, taking care not to pull the fabric out of shape.

Notes

The exact completion time and finished dimensions are unspecified and will depend on your pace, tension, and the full pattern’s layout.
