- Work Round 3: *1 sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the next stitch*, repeat around (18 stitches).
- Work Round 4: *1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch*, repeat around (24 stitches).
- Work Round 5: *1 sc in each of the next 3 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch*, repeat around (30 stitches).
- Work Rounds 6 through 12: 1 sc in each stitch around (30 stitches).

- Cut the yarn leaving an 8-inch tail. Weave the tail through the front loops of the remaining stitches and pull gently to close the opening.
- Make the hat in the contrast color: Start with a magic ring, chain 1, and work 6 sc into the ring.
- Work Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around (12 stitches).
- Work Round 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in the next stitch* around (18 stitches).
- For Rounds 4 through 7, work 1 sc in each stitch around (18 stitches).
- Stuff the crown lightly or leave unstuffed.
- For the brim, work 2 sc in each stitch around (36 stitches).
- Finish the round with a slip stitch, cut the yarn, and weave in the end.
- Make the hat band with a chain of 20 stitches in a darker color, and sew the ends together.
- Attach the hat to the ghost with small stitches.
- Place the safety eyes or embroider two small eyes with black thread.
- Use the white yarn tail to add a tiny mouth if desired, tuck in visible stuffing, and weave in all ends.
Notes
This project is suitable for a confident beginner comfortable with counting rounds and using a magic ring. Allow 4 to 6 hours to complete the ghost.
