Craft whimsical ghost lanterns from air-dry clay to add a cozy touch to your seasonal décor.

Ingredients

  • White air-dry clay
  • A small cup (to shape the lantern)
  • Cling film (to cover the cup)
  • A blunt clay tool (for cutting out eyes and mouth)
  • A small brush or sponge (for smoothing the clay)
  • Olive oil or cooking spray (optional, to prevent sticking)
  • A tea light or small candle
  • Paint (optional, in various colors for customization)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace: Find a quiet spot to work, laying down a protective cloth or paper.
  2. Cover your cup: Wrap it in cling film to help the clay release easily once it dries.
  3. Roll the clay: Take a handful of air-dry clay and roll it out to about a quarter inch thick.
  4. Shape the lantern: Drape the rolled clay over the cup and mold it into a ghost shape.
  5. Cut out the face: Use the blunt clay tool to make eyes and a mouth, letting your creativity guide you.
  6. Smooth the surface: Use a brush or sponge, dipped in water or oil, to refine the edges.
  7. Let it dry: Place the lantern on a flat surface for at least 24 hours.
  8. Finish up: Remove the cling film and cup, and paint if desired.
  9. Add light: Place a tea light or small candle inside for a magical glow.

Notes

Store lanterns in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Consider repainting for seasonal updates.
