No reviews

Make sparkling, wintry decorations by growing crystals on a hanging shape using borax and water.

  • Total Time: 720 minutes

Ingredients

  • Borax
  • Water
  • String
  • A container for mixing
  • A stirring stick
  • An ornament shape (e.g., pipe cleaners)

Instructions

  1. Boil the water. Heat the water until it boils, then carefully pour it into your mixing container.
  2. Add the borax gradually. Sprinkle borax into the hot water a little at a time while stirring until it dissolves completely.
  3. Prepare the ornament. Tie one end of a piece of string securely to the ornament shape.
  4. Suspend the shape in the solution. Lower the ornament into the container, ensuring it hangs without touching the bottom or sides.
  5. Leave the container undisturbed. Let the solution sit for several hours or overnight without moving or stirring.
  6. Remove the ornament. Lift the ornament out by its string and handle it gently.
  7. Let it dry. Allow the ornament to dry somewhere safe before displaying it.
  8. Display your finished decoration. Once dry, hang the ornament as seasonal décor.

Notes

Keep borax and the solution away from children and pets. The crystal coating can be fragile, handle the finished piece gently.
