Ingredients
- Vintage or modern mugs – quantity: varies
- Soy wax – quantity: varies based on number of mugs
- Warm holiday fragrance – quantity: varies based on personal preference
- Double boiler – quantity: 1
- Candle wicks – quantity: varies based on number of mugs
Instructions
- Prepare the mugs.
- Gather your vintage or modern mugs. Make sure they are clean, dry, and free from cracks or damage.
- Melt the soy wax.
- Place the soy wax in a double boiler and heat it gently until it is fully melted. Avoid rushing this step, since gradual heating helps the wax melt evenly.
- Add the fragrance.
- Once the wax has melted, add the warm holiday fragrance. Stir carefully so the fragrance distributes throughout the wax.
- Pour the wax into the mugs.
- Carefully pour the scented wax into each mug. Leave some space at the top rather than filling the mug completely.
- Position the wick.
- Insert a wick into the center of each mug while the wax is still liquid. Keep the wick upright and centered so the finished candle burns more evenly.
- Let the candles cool.
- Leave the mugs undisturbed while the wax cools and solidifies. Moving them too soon can disturb the surface or shift the wick.
- Trim the wick.
- Once the wax has fully set, trim the wick so approximately 1/4 inch remains above the wax.
- Finish the candles.
- Your DIY Christmas mug candles are ready to gift or enjoy. Add a simple ribbon or holiday label if desired, making sure the label does not interfere with safe candle use.
Notes
Before gifting, include basic candle-safety information and remind the recipient never to leave a burning candle unattended. Store unused candles in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and heat.
