Cheerful crepe-paper marigolds for a seasonal altar. Quick to assemble and easy to make in multiples for a garland or arch.

Ingredients

  • Orange crepe paper – 1 roll
  • Stapler – 1
  • A circular template (such as a round lid or sturdy cardboard) – 1

Instructions

  1. Stack the paper. Place 8 to 10 layers of crepe paper on top of one another. Keep the layers roughly the same size.
  2. Cut the circles. Use a circular template to shape the stacked paper into circles. Keeping the circles even helps the finished flower look uniform.
  3. Staple the center. Align the circles neatly, then staple them together through the center. Make sure the staple holds every layer securely.
  4. Cut the petal fringe. Make closely spaced cuts around the outer edge, stopping well before the center so the paper stays connected.
  5. Lift the layers. Starting with the top layer, gently bring each layer up toward the center. Crumple it lightly between your fingers to add volume, then repeat with every layer.
  6. Shape the flower. Carefully spread and arrange the petals until the flower looks full, rounded, and fluffy.

Notes

For hanging arrangements, attach the flowers to a sturdy backing or string rather than pulling on the delicate paper petals.
