Ingredients
- Eggshells (clean and dry)
- Epsom salt
- Food coloring
- Water (hot)
Instructions
- Clean the eggshells. Rinse the shells carefully and remove any remaining egg. Allow them to dry completely.
- Remove the inner membrane. Carefully peel away the thin membrane inside each shell.
- Prepare the Epsom salt solution. Add Epsom salt to a bowl of hot water. Stir until the salt dissolves and the water becomes saturated.
- Add the color. Mix in food coloring a few drops at a time.
- Fill the eggshells. Place the eggshells in a stable container. Carefully fill them with the colored Epsom salt solution.
- Leave the shells undisturbed. Let the filled eggshells sit for 24–48 hours.
- Check the crystals. Once crystals have formed, carefully remove the eggshells from the container.
- Display the geodes. Allow the finished geodes to dry fully, then place them in a small dish, egg cup, or display tray.
Notes
Avoid placing geodes where they may be knocked over, exposed to moisture, or handled frequently. These geodes are decorative rather than washable.
