Ingredients
- 1 clear glass jar with a screw lid, 8 fluid ounces, about 2.5 inches wide and 5 inches tall
- 1 cup distilled water
- 2 tablespoons clear school glue
- 1 teaspoon blue washable liquid paint
- 1/2 teaspoon purple washable liquid paint (optional)
- 1 tablespoon fine silver glitter
- 1/2 teaspoon blue or violet mica powder (optional)
- 1 small plastic funnel, 1.5 to 2 inches wide
- 1 wooden craft stick, 4.5 inches long
- 1 liquid measuring cup, 2-cup capacity
- 1 small bowl, 8-ounce capacity
- 1 silicone spatula or teaspoon
- 1 tube waterproof clear-drying craft adhesive, 1 to 2 fluid ounces
- 1 sheet plastic table covering, about 24 by 36 inches
- 1 pair disposable nitrile gloves, medium or large (optional)
- 1 clean cotton cloth, about 12 by 12 inches
- 1 sheet paper towel, about 11 by 11 inches
Instructions
- Cover your table with the plastic sheet before you open any supplies.
- Wash the glass jar and lid with warm soapy water, then rinse them well. Dry every part completely with the cotton cloth.
- Pour 1 cup of distilled water into the liquid measuring cup. Add 2 tablespoons of clear school glue and stir slowly until the mixture looks evenly cloudy.
- Pour the water and glue mixture into the small bowl. Add 1 teaspoon of blue washable paint and, if desired, 1/2 teaspoon of purple washable paint. Stir gently.
- Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of fine silver glitter into the bowl. Add 1/2 teaspoon of blue or violet mica powder if you are using it, then fold everything together with the wooden craft stick.
- Set the funnel into the jar opening and pour the colored mixture in slowly. Leave about 1/2 inch of empty space at the top.
- Let the jar sit upright for 5 minutes to allow large bubbles to rise.
- Wipe the rim and the inside edge of the lid with the cotton cloth.
- Apply a thin, even bead of waterproof clear-drying craft adhesive around the inside edge of the lid. Press the lid onto the jar firmly.
- Turn the sealed jar upright and wipe away any adhesive that squeezes out.
- Let it rest without moving for 24 hours.
- After the cure time, tilt the jar slowly to watch the glitter travel.
Notes
The project is suitable for a complete beginner and can be made with household materials. Allow 24 hours of cure time before moving the jar.
