Galaxy in a Mason Jar

5 Stars 4 Stars 3 Stars 2 Stars 1 Star

No reviews

A simple, hands-on craft that layers colored water, fluffy cotton ‘clouds,’ and glitter into a miniature cosmic scene.

Ingredients

  • Mason jar with a lid
  • Cotton balls
  • Blue food coloring
  • Purple food coloring
  • Water
  • Glitter
  • Small stars or other galaxy-themed decorations

Instructions

  1. Fill the Mason jar halfway with water, leaving room for the cotton and decorations.
  2. Add a few drops of blue and purple food coloring. Stir and adjust the colors gradually until you like the galaxy effect.
  3. Stir glitter into the colored water so it catches the light.
  4. Gently stretch the cotton balls into thin, fluffy pieces.
  5. Place the stretched cotton on top of the colored water and arrange it to create the look of soft galaxy clouds.
  6. Place small stars or other galaxy-themed decorations in the jar, then close the lid.

Notes

Keep the jar upright and away from places where it could be knocked over. Avoid soaking the jar or letting water seep beneath the lid. Supervise children with small decorations and glitter.
