Transform ordinary tin cans into charming hanging planters with playful smiles, perfect for brightening your space.

Ingredients

  • Empty tin cans (soup or coffee cans work well)
  • Paint (acrylic or outdoor craft paint)
  • Paintbrushes (a mix of sizes)
  • Hammer or nail (for making drainage holes)
  • Twine or string (to hang your planters)
  • Potting soil (light and fluffy)
  • Small plants or seedlings (herbs, flowers, or succulents)
  • Water (for the plants)

Instructions

  1. Begin by cleaning the empty tin cans. Remove any labels and wash them thoroughly.
  2. Once dry, use a hammer and nail to carefully poke a few holes in the bottom of each can.
  3. Choose your paint colors and start with a base coat, gently covering the surface.
  4. After your base layer dries, use smaller brushes to add eyes and a smiling mouth.
  5. Once decorated and dry, fill each planter with potting soil, leaving space at the top for your plants.
  6. Gently place your seedlings or plants into the soil, tucking them in with care.
  7. Cut a length of twine or string and tie it securely around the top edge of the can to create a hanging loop.
  8. Finally, choose a sunny spot or hang your smiling tin can planters where they can brighten your space.

Notes

For outdoor use, consider using outdoor craft paint for durability. Regularly check soil moisture and provide adequate light for your plants.
