A leaf suncatcher is a simple window decoration made with clear contact paper and colorful tissue paper or real leaves. It catches the daylight and turns it into a small display of color, making it a lovely project for autumn, nature-themed crafts, or a quiet afternoon at home.

Ingredients

  • Clear contact paper: enough to cover your leaf designs twice, with some extra room for trimming
  • Colored tissue paper or leaves: choose for vivid, translucent color, or use suitable leaves for a natural look
  • Scissors: 1 pair for cutting out the templates, decorations, and finished shapes
  • A pencil: for tracing leaf outlines
  • String or ribbon: a short piece for hanging the finished suncatcher in a window

Instructions

  1. Print and cut out the free leaf templates. Choose the leaf shapes you want to use, then carefully cut them out.
  2. Trace the shapes onto your material. Place each template over colored tissue paper or a leaf and trace around it with a pencil.
  3. Cut out the traced shapes. Follow the pencil outlines as closely as you can.
  4. Prepare the first sheet of contact paper. Cut a piece large enough to hold your leaf shapes, then peel off one side of its backing to expose the sticky surface.
  5. Arrange the leaves or tissue shapes on the sticky side of the contact paper. Adjust their position before sealing the design.
  6. Add the second layer of contact paper. Peel the backing from another piece of clear contact paper and lay it over the design from one edge to avoid wrinkles or trapped air.
  7. Trim around the shapes to remove excess contact paper, leaving a small clear margin around the paper or leaf.
  8. Attach string or ribbon for hanging the suncatcher in a window.

Notes

Supervise children's use of scissors, and handle delicate materials carefully.
