A pressed-flower lantern turns a clean glass jar into a softly decorated candle holder, with dried flowers or leaves sealed against the outside using Mod Podge. It’s a relaxed, beginner-friendly craft that doesn’t require special equipment.

Ingredients

  • 1 glass jar — Use an Oui jar, mason jar, or clean food jar.
  • 7–10 dried flowers or leaves — Choose pieces that fit the jar and are dry and intact.
  • 1 votive candle or tea light — Select a candle that fits securely inside the jar.
  • Mod Podge Multi
  • Ribbon or twine (optional) — For wrapping around the jar’s rim and tying a bow.
  • 1 paintbrush — Choose a small brush for applying Mod Podge.

Instructions

  1. Prepare the jar. If you’re using an old food jar, remove its label and clean it thoroughly. Let the jar dry fully before decorating.
  2. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge. Use a paintbrush to spread a light, even coat over a small area of the jar.
  3. Arrange the dried flowers or leaves. Place a flower onto the coated area and gently press it against the glass.
  4. Seal the arrangement. Brush another layer of Mod Podge around the jar, covering the flowers and the open areas between them.
  5. Let the jar dry. Allow it to dry for 20 minutes before handling. If you want to apply additional coats, wait 2 hours before doing so.
  6. Add an optional finishing touch. Wrap ribbon or twine around the rim of the jar and tie a bow.
  7. Add the candle. Place a votive candle or tea light inside the jar once the decoration is dry.

Notes

The finished piece is a decorative candle holder. Treat the finished lantern gently, avoid soaking, and store in a dry place.
