Ingredients
- About 90 yards of worsted weight yarn (weight 4, medium) in white or cream
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Small scissors
- One stitch marker (optional)
- Tape measure
- About 1.5 ounces (43 g) polyester fiberfill
- Black embroidery thread
- Small amount of pink embroidery thread (optional)
- One small scrap of cardboard (optional)
Instructions
- Make a magic ring, work 6 single crochet (sc) into the ring.
- Round 2: Work 2 sc in each stitch around (12 stitches).
- Round 3: Repeat '1 sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the next stitch' around (18 stitches).
- Round 4: Repeat '1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch' around (24 stitches).
- Round 5: Repeat '1 sc in each of the next 3 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch' around (30 stitches).
- Round 6: Repeat '1 sc in each of the next 4 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch' around (36 stitches).
- Round 7: Repeat '1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch' around (48 stitches).
- Rounds 8 through 10: Work 1 sc in each stitch around (48 stitches).
- Rounds 11 through 18: Work 1 sc in each stitch around (48 stitches), adding small amounts of polyester fiberfill as you go.
- Round 19: Repeat '1 sc in each of the next 6 stitches, sc2tog' around (42 stitches).
- Round 20: Repeat '1 sc in each of the next 5 stitches, sc2tog' around (36 stitches).
- Round 21: Repeat '1 sc in each of the next 4 stitches, sc2tog' around (30 stitches).
- Round 22: Repeat '1 sc in each of the next 3 stitches, sc2tog' around (24 stitches).
- Round 23: Repeat '1 sc in the next stitch, sc2tog' around (18 stitches).
- Round 24: Work sc2tog around (12 stitches).
- Round 25: Cut the yarn, leaving an 8-inch tail. Weave the tail through the remaining stitches to close the opening.
- Use black embroidery thread to add eyes and mouth to the face.
- Join white yarn at the top center with a slip stitch to make the hanging cord. Chain 18, slip stitch to the same top stitch, fasten off, and weave in ends.
- Weave in all ends.
