Ingredients
- Translucent contact paper: Enough for two layers to cover your leaf arrangement.
- Leaves: Real fall leaves or cut leaf shapes from templates.
- Scissors: For cutting template shapes and trimming the finished suncatcher.
- A frame or heavy paper: For displaying the finished suncatcher or using as a backing.
- Hole punch: Optional, for making a hanging hole near the top.
- String or ribbon: Optional, for hanging the suncatcher.
Instructions
- Gather your leaves or make leaf shapes. Collect fall leaves, or use the free templates to cut out leaf shapes.
- Cut the first piece of contact paper. Cut a sheet large enough to hold your arrangement, leaving some space around the leaves for a clear border.
- Peel off the backing. Carefully remove the backing from the contact paper to expose the sticky side.
- Arrange the leaves. Place the real leaves or template shapes on the sticky surface. Let children try different layouts before pressing each piece down.
- Cover the arrangement. Place a second piece of contact paper over the leaves. Lower it gradually rather than dropping it all at once.
- Smooth and trim. Press the two contact-paper layers together around the leaves, then trim the edges to your preferred size.
- Choose how to display it. If you’re using a frame, place the finished suncatcher inside it.
- Add a hanging option, if you like. Use a hole punch to make a hole near the top. Thread string or ribbon through the hole and tie it securely.
Notes
Children should use scissors only with suitable adult supervision. Make sure to plan the workspace to keep the process smooth and avoid frustrations.
