Ingredients
- Worsted weight yarn, weight 4 medium, washable acrylic fiber, about 340 yards total (2 skeins of 170 yards each)
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle with a blunt tip
- Small scissors
- Tape measure
- Optional: 2 stitch markers
Instructions
- Make 50 chains to form the foundation chain.
- Row 1: Make 1 double crochet (dc) in the fourth chain from the hook. Continue with 1 dc in each chain across for a total of 48 dc.
- Chain 3 and turn. Work 1 dc in each stitch across. Repeat this until you have a total of 28 rows.
- For the leg openings, fold the body with the right side facing inward. Mark 10 stitches from one edge and leave the next 8 stitches open. Mark the next 12 stitches, leave the next 8 stitches open, and leave the final 10 stitches at the other edge.
- Unfold the body. For the first joining row, chain 3 and work 1 dc across the first 10 stitches. Chain 8 loosely over the first leg opening, then work 1 dc in the next 12 stitches. Chain 8 over the second leg opening and work 1 dc in the final 10 stitches.
- Work 4 more rows of dc across the full row, including in the chain spaces.
- Make the hood by joining yarn with a slip stitch at one short end of the top edge. Chain 3, then work 1 dc in each of the 48 stitches.
- For hood rows 2 through 8, chain 3 and turn, and work 1 dc in each stitch across, keeping 48 dc in every row.
- Fold the hood with the wrong side facing outward and align the two short side edges. Join the back seam using slip stitches or a yarn needle.
- Try the sweater on your dog. If the neck feels loose, add a single crochet edging around the neck opening.
- Fasten off with a long tail and weave in the ends with the yarn needle.
