Ingredients
- Worsted weight cotton yarn, about 40 yards total
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Small scissors
- Tape measure
- Optional stitch marker
Instructions
- Make a magic ring by wrapping the yarn around two fingers and inserting your hook under the first strand.
- Chain 2. Work 12 double crochet stitches into the magic ring. Pull the yarn tail to close the center. Join with a slip stitch to the first double crochet.
- For round 2, chain 2. Work 2 double crochet into each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first double crochet.
- For round 3, chain 2. Work 1 double crochet in the first stitch, then 2 double crochet in the next stitch. Repeat that sequence around. Join with a slip stitch.
- For round 4, chain 2. Work 1 double crochet in each of the first 2 stitches, then 2 double crochet in the next stitch. Repeat around. Join with a slip stitch.
- For round 5, chain 1. Work 1 single crochet in the same stitch as the join, then work 1 single crochet in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a 5-inch tail. Pull the tail through the last loop. Use a yarn needle to weave in the ends on the wrong side.
Notes
If the coaster looks slightly wavy, gently block it by dampening and reshaping while it dries. Adjust hook size if necessary for a firmer or softer finish.
