This little bee is a soothing crochet project, perfect for a confident beginner. It features a fun striped body and charming details like wings and antennae, making it an adorable addition to any space.

  • Total Time: 180 minutes

Ingredients

  • 120 yards (70 g) of worsted weight acrylic yarn (55 yards yellow, 45 yards black, 20 yards cream or white)
  • One H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • 1.5 ounces (43 g) polyester fiberfill
  • Two 9 mm safety eyes or small embroidered eyes
  • Yarn needle with blunt tip
  • Sharp scissors
  • Two stitch markers (optional)
  • Tape measure
  • Small scrap of pink or rust-colored yarn for mouth (optional)
  • Scrap of thin black yarn for antennae and legs

Instructions

  1. Make a magic ring with yellow yarn. Chain 1 to bring the hook to working height, then work 6 single crochet into the ring. Pull the yarn tail to close the center and place a marker in the first stitch.
  2. Work the first increase round by placing 2 single crochet into each stitch around. Move the marker to the first stitch after each round.
  3. Continue shaping the base with one single crochet in the next stitch, then an increase in the following stitch, repeating around.
  4. Work one single crochet in each stitch around for the next round, then repeat one single crochet and an increase around for the following round.
  5. Change to black yarn and work two rounds of black single crochet with 24 stitches each round.
  6. Change to yellow yarn and work two rounds of yellow single crochet with 24 stitches each round.
  7. Insert the safety eyes between the second and third yellow rounds from the top, spacing them about 7 stitches apart.
  8. Begin narrowing the head by working 2 single crochet, then a decrease, repeating around.
  9. Stuff the body gradually through the remaining opening. Work one round of decreases around.
  10. Fasten off with a long tail and weave it through the front loops of the remaining stitches to close the opening.
  11. Make two wings with cream yarn by chaining 6 and working various stitches into the chains as specified.
  12. Sew the wings to the upper sides of the body, placing them just behind the eyes. Add black yarn antennae and legs.

Notes

Keep all parts secure if you give the bee to a young child. If acrylic fabric looks rumpled, block it cold with gentle shaping.
