Ingredients
- 1 clear glass jar with a screw lid, 16 fluid ounces, wide mouth and leak-free lid
- 1 cup clear school glue, washable and non-toxic
- 1 cup warm water, not hot
- 2 tablespoons liquid watercolor in dark blue
- 1 tablespoon liquid watercolor in violet or purple
- 1 tablespoon fine iridescent glitter
- 1 teaspoon silver star glitter or holographic confetti
- 1 teaspoon fine white glitter, optional
- 1 disposable mixing cup, 16 fluid ounces
- 1 small bowl for dividing the mixture, 8 fluid ounces
- 2 wooden craft sticks, 6 inches long
- 1 small funnel, wide enough for glitter, optional
- 1 tablespoon measuring spoon
- 1 teaspoon measuring spoon
- 1 small paintbrush, 1/2 inch wide, for applying glue around the lid
- 1 sheet wax paper, at least 12 inches by 12 inches
- 1 reusable table covering, such as a silicone mat or old baking sheet
- 1 pair nitrile or household cleaning gloves, optional
- 1 clean cloth, at least 8 inches by 8 inches
Instructions
- Cover your table with a silicone mat, old baking sheet, or washable cloth before you open the glue.
- Wash the jar and lid with warm soapy water, then dry both completely.
- Pour 1 cup of clear glue into the mixing cup. Add 1 cup of warm water and stir slowly for about 60 seconds.
- Divide about half of the mixture into the small bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of dark blue liquid watercolor to the larger portion and stir until the color looks even. Add 1 tablespoon of violet watercolor to the smaller portion, then stir gently.
- Pour the blue mixture into the jar through the funnel or directly from the cup if the jar has a wide mouth, filling it to about one-third full.
- Add 1 tablespoon of iridescent glitter and 1/2 teaspoon of silver star glitter, using the wooden stick to nudge the glitter beneath the surface.
- Pour the violet mixture slowly down the inside wall of the jar, creating a soft overlap. Add the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of silver star glitter and 1 teaspoon of fine white glitter if desired.
- Top off the jar with the remaining clear glue and water mixture, leaving about 1/2 inch of space below the lid.
- Pause for five minutes and watch the layers shift. Adjust colors if needed.
- Wipe the rim and threads with the clean cloth.
- Brush a thin, even layer of clear glue around the inside edge of the lid and screw it on firmly.
- Set the jar on wax paper and leave it upright for 12 to 24 hours to cure.
Notes
Keep glue, glitter, and small confetti away from children under 3. Children ages 6 and older can help with measuring and stirring with close adult supervision. Wear gloves if you have sensitive skin.
