Ingredients
- 6 fluid ounces clear, self-leveling gel medium, divided into two 3-fluid-ounce pours
- 3 silicone ornament molds, each about 3 inches wide and 1/4 inch deep
- 12 to 18 small pressed flowers and leaves, fully dry
- 3 pieces of cotton cord, each 8 inches long
- 1 small wooden craft stick, 4 inches long
- 1 disposable plastic cup, 8 fluid ounces
- 1 disposable stir stick, 5 inches long
- 1 pair of small tweezers, about 4 inches long (optional)
- 1 small silicone spatula, 4 inches wide or smaller
- 1 sheet of parchment paper, at least 12 inches by 12 inches
- 1 pair of nitrile gloves, medium or large
- 1 package of paper towels, about 10 sheets
- 1 small level, about 6 inches long (optional)
- 1 shallow tray, about 12 inches wide (optional)
Instructions
- Cover the table with parchment paper and set every supply within reach before opening the gel.
- Check that your table sits level, using the small level if you have one.
- Put on the nitrile gloves and place the three silicone molds in the shallow tray.
- Wipe the molds with a dry paper towel to remove dust or lint.
- Sort the pressed flowers, setting aside the flattest ones.
- Measure 3 fluid ounces of clear gel into the plastic cup and stir slowly for about 30 seconds.
- Pour a thin first layer into each mold, using about 1 fluid ounce per mold and letting it rest for 5 minutes.
- Arrange the flowers face down or face up in the gel, using tweezers for small petals and the craft stick for larger leaves.
- Leave a narrow clear border around each flower.
- Mix and pour the second 3 fluid ounces of gel evenly among the three molds, guiding the gel outward with the silicone spatula.
- Touch any bubbles with the tip of the wooden stick and draw them toward the nearest edge.
- Lay one 8-inch cotton cord across the top edge of each mold, pressing only the buried part down.
- Let the ornaments sit undisturbed for 24 to 48 hours.
- Once dry and flexible, gently pull the silicone away from the edges, trim any loose cord ends, and wipe away dust.
Notes
Make sure to work in a well-ventilated room, and avoid direct sunlight on the finished ornaments to prevent fading.
