Create beautiful suncatchers using dried flowers and clear-drying school glue to bring a peaceful atmosphere into your space.

  • Total Time: 120 minutes

Ingredients

  • 12 fluid ounces of clear-drying school glue
  • 1 silicone suncatcher mold measuring about 5 inches wide by 6 inches long
  • 8 to 12 small dried flowers or pressed flower pieces, each about 1/2 inch to 1 inch wide
  • 1 small bottle of white or light-colored acrylic paint, 2 fluid ounces (optional)
  • 1 paintbrush, 1/2 inch wide
  • 1 wooden toothpick
  • 1 pair of blunt-tip tweezers, about 4 inches long (optional)
  • 1 piece of cotton cord, 8 inches long and about 1/8 inch thick
  • 1 small paper cup, 3 fluid ounces (for optional paint)
  • 1 silicone craft mat or plastic table covering, at least 18 inches by 24 inches
  • 1 pair of disposable nitrile or vinyl gloves (optional)
  • 1 lint-free cloth, about 12 inches square
  • 1 flat tray or piece of cardboard, about 8 inches by 10 inches

Instructions

  1. Cover the table with the silicone mat or plastic covering.
  2. Set the silicone mold on the flat tray and wipe it with the lint-free cloth.
  3. If desired, brush a thin coat of acrylic paint onto the back area of the mold and let it dry for 20 to 30 minutes.
  4. Pour or squeeze the clear glue into the mold to create a thin base layer about 1/8 inch deep.
  5. Wait 8 to 12 minutes, then use the toothpick to move any large bubbles toward the edge.
  6. Arrange 8 to 12 dried flowers across the surface, leaving at least 1/4 inch between each flower and the mold’s edge.
  7. Add a second thin layer of glue over the flowers, about 1/8 inch deep.
  8. Pause for a close look; fix any shifted flowers or soft ripples if necessary.
  9. Allow the second layer to rest for 15 to 20 minutes, then add a final thin layer only where the flowers still show above the surface.
  10. Place the tray in a level, quiet spot away from direct heat and moving air, and let it dry for 24 to 48 hours.
  11. When the center feels firm, gently flex the silicone mold away from the edge.
  12. Tie the cotton cord through the top opening or around the top edge, trim the ends, and hang the piece only after the glue has fully dried.

Notes

Keep the finished suncatcher away from direct outdoor weather and strong, hot sunlight. Clean tools with warm water while glue is still soft.
