Create vibrant oversized cempasúchil flowers using layered orange tissue paper, perfect for Día de Muertos or festive displays.

Ingredients

  • 8 large sheets of orange tissue paper, approximately 1 meter in size
  • 1 piece of orange ribbon or thread to tie the center
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Stack and align the paper. Place all eight sheets of orange tissue paper one on top of another. Smooth them out and line up the edges as evenly as you can.
  2. Fold the stack into an accordion. Starting at one end, fold the sheets together in alternating directions, making each fold approximately 5 cm wide.
  3. Tie the center. Find the midpoint of the folded accordion and wrap the orange ribbon or thread firmly around it. Secure the tie with a knot.
  4. Round the ends. Use scissors to cut a curved shape at both ends of the folded accordion.
  5. Open the folded fan. Gently spread the accordion out toward both sides until it opens into a fan-like shape.
  6. Separate the layers. Lift one layer of tissue paper at a time and bring it toward the center.
  7. Shape the bloom. Keep separating and arranging the layers until the flower looks round, abundant, and fluffy.
  8. Make additional flowers for your display. Repeat the same process with more sets of eight sheets.

Notes

The finished flowers are delicate and should be handled gently. Avoid exposing them to moisture.
