A friendly ghost-shaped bag made with a soothing crochet pattern, perfect for small treasures and seasonal decor.

  • Total Time: 360 minutes

Ingredients

  • Worsted weight yarn, weight 4 medium, about 420 yards total (3 skeins)
  • H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle for weaving in the ends
  • Sharp scissors
  • Tape measure
  • Stitch markers (optional)
  • Small amount of black embroidery floss for the eyes and mouth
  • Small piece of white felt for the eye highlights (optional)
  • Fabric glue (optional)
  • Small handful of polyester fiberfill for lightly filling the ghost top

Instructions

  1. Chain 38 to make the foundation chain.
  2. Row 1: Work 1 hdc in the 3rd chain from the hook, then work 1 hdc in each chain across. You will have 36 hdc.
  3. Row 2: Chain 2 and turn. Work 1 hdc in each stitch across. You will have 36 hdc.
  4. Repeat Row 2 until the body panel measures 10 inches tall, ending after Row 25.
  5. Fasten off the first panel and make a second matching panel.
  6. Place the panels together with the right sides facing outward and use stitch markers to hold the corners and edges together.
  7. Join the panels with single crochet starting at one lower corner and working along the bottom and up one side, keeping the top edge open.
  8. Turn the bag right side out and lightly fill the upper corners with polyester fiberfill.
  9. Work the top border around the open edge with sc, placing about 38 sc across the front and back.
  10. For the second border round, chain 1 and work 1 sc in each stitch around.
  11. Make the handle by chaining 46 and working 1 sc in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across.
  12. Attach the handle to the inside of the bag, about 3 inches from each side edge.
  13. Add a face with black embroidery floss for two small oval eyes and a short curved mouth.
  14. Weave in all ends with the yarn needle.

Notes

Ensure to check every seam for safety if gifting the bag to children. Use appropriate yarn types and hook sizes for your desired results.
