Ingredients
- 1700 yards of worsted weight acrylic yarn (10 skeins of 170 yards each)
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Scissors
- Tape measure
- Two stitch markers (optional)
Instructions
- Choose the difficulty and stitch multiple. This is an easy to confident beginner project. The stitch multiple is any multiple of 4 stitches plus 2, for which the 40-inch size begins with a foundation chain of 142 chains.
- Make a chain by pulling the yarn through the loop on your hook repeatedly. Keep it relaxed rather than tight.
- Row 1: Make 1 double crochet in the fourth chain from the hook and in each chain across. You will have 140 double crochet stitches.
- Turn your work. Chain 3 for the turning chain.
- Row 2: Work 1 double crochet in each stitch across, ending with 140 double crochet stitches.
- Row 3: Chain 3, then work 1 front post double crochet around the post of the next stitch. Repeat this sequence across, ending with 140 stitches.
- Row 4: Chain 3 and turn. Work 1 double crochet in each stitch across.
- Row 5: Chain 3, work 1 double crochet in each of the next 3 stitches, then 1 front post double crochet around the next post. Repeat this sequence, ending with 140 stitches.
- Rows 6 through 8: Chain 3 and turn; work 1 double crochet in every stitch across, placing the final stitch in the top of the turning chain for 140 stitches.
- Repeat Rows 3 through 8 until the blanket measures about 47 inches long.
- Make the final edge even with one row of double crochet: Chain 3, work 1 double crochet in each stitch across. Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail about 8 inches long.
- Weave in the ends with your yarn needle, ensuring security.
- Block the blanket cold by pinning it gently to the finished measurements if necessary.
Notes
This blanket can be made with a thicker yarn and larger hook for a quicker finish. Adjust dimensions by changing the starting chain while ensuring the stitch multiple of 4 plus 2 is maintained.
