Ingredients
- Pipe cleaners
- Water
- Borax
- Food coloring
- Heat-safe container
- Spoon or utensil for mixing
Instructions
- Shape the pipe cleaners into hearts by bending each pipe cleaner into a heart outline, pinching the top center to create the dip, and shaping the lower section into a point.
- Boil the water in a heat-safe pot or kettle, ensuring children are kept at a safe distance.
- Carefully mix Borax into the hot water until fully dissolved, stirring thoroughly.
- Add food coloring to the solution and stir through, adjusting the color as desired.
- Submerge the pipe-cleaner hearts in the solution, ensuring they are fully submerged with enough space between them to avoid touching.
- Set the container somewhere stable and undisturbed overnight for crystals to form.
- Once crystals have formed, carefully remove the hearts and allow them to dry completely before displaying.
Notes
This craft is suitable for beginners but requires adult supervision due to the use of hot water and Borax. Keep finished projects away from food and small children.
