Ingredients
- Worsted weight yarn (weight 4, medium), about 105 yards total
- H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Polyester fiberfill, about 0.5 ounce (14 g)
- Yarn needle with a rounded tip
- Small scissors
- One stitch marker (optional)
- Tape measure
- Three small keychain rings or lobster clasps
- Small felt circles, embroidery thread, or safety eyes for faces
- A few yards of black, white, orange, or purple yarn scraps for details
Instructions
- Make a magic ring and work 6 single crochet stitches into the ring. Pull the yarn tail to close the center and join with a slip stitch if preferred.
- Round 2: work 2 single crochet in each stitch around (12 stitches).
- Round 3: work 1 single crochet in the next stitch, then 2 single crochet in the following stitch, repeating around (18 stitches).
- Round 4: work 1 single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, then 2 single crochet in the next stitch, repeating around (24 stitches).
- Rounds 5 through 10: work 1 single crochet in each stitch around (keeping 24 stitches).
- Choose your figure: for the ghost, leave the body plain; for the pumpkin, change to orange yarn and add vertical lines later; for the bat, prepare two small wings from scraps.
- Round 11: work 2 single crochet, then decrease over the next 2 stitches, repeating around (18 stitches).
- Round 12: work 1 single crochet, then decrease, repeating around (12 stitches).
- Gradually add small pinches of polyester fiberfill through the opening.
- Round 13: decrease around (6 stitches).
- Round 14: decrease three times for 3 stitches, cut the yarn leaving an 8-inch tail, and weave through the remaining stitches to pull gently closed.
- Add a hanging loop by attaching contrasting yarn with a slip stitch, chain 8, and slip stitch into the same attachment point.
- Make ghost details: stitch two eyes and a small mouth using black thread.
- Make pumpkin details: sew three shallow vertical lines and add a small green stem.
- For bat wings: chain 6, work stitches as specified, then sew the wings to the sides.
- Weave in every yarn tail carefully.
