Halloween Paper Plate Ghosts

Create friendly, spooky ghosts using paper plates, paint, and markers. This fun and easy project is perfect for kids to decorate themselves for Halloween.

Ingredients

  • Paper plates – 1 or more
  • Black marker – 1
  • Scissors – 1 pair (age appropriate)
  • White paint – 1 bottle or White tissue paper – 1 sheet
  • Glue – 1 bottle

Instructions

  1. Prepare the plate. Set a paper plate on a protected surface. Decide whether you will use white paint or white tissue paper to create the ghost’s base.
  2. Make the plate white. Paint the plate white, covering the surface you want to show. Alternatively, spread glue over the plate and place white tissue paper on top. Smooth it gently so it lies against the plate without tearing. Let the paint or glue dry before moving on.
  3. Draw the ghost’s face. Use a black marker to draw two eyes and a mouth. Try a classic spooky expression, or make the face surprised, sleepy, or silly. If the white surface is not fully dry, wait longer so the marker does not smudge.
  4. Add optional details. Cut shapes from leftover paper or tissue if you want to add more features. Glue them onto the plate, taking care not to cover the eyes and mouth unless that is part of your design.
  5. Let the craft dry completely. Set the decorated plate aside until the paint and glue are dry to the touch. Avoid stacking plates while their surfaces are still damp, as they may stick together or shift.
  6. Display your ghosts. Once everything is dry, arrange the ghosts for Halloween. You can display one on its own or group several together as a small ghost family.

Notes

Choose sturdy plates that can hold their shape while children paint or add glued details. Use age-appropriate scissors and supervise cutting. Keep the marker, paint, and glue suitable for the children using them, and follow the product labels.
