Homemade Bubble Gum

A fun edible craft that allows kids to mix, shape, and wrap their own chewy bubble gum treats.

Ingredients

  • Gum base
  • Corn syrup
  • Powdered sugar
  • Flavoring, such as vanilla or fruit extracts
  • Food coloring
  • A microwave-safe bowl
  • Parchment paper

Instructions

  1. Combine the gum base, corn syrup, and flavoring. Add them to a microwave-safe bowl and stir to begin mixing.
  2. Warm the mixture in short intervals. Microwave it for 30 seconds, then carefully remove the bowl and stir. Continue in 30-second intervals, stirring between each one, until the gum base has melted and the mixture is well combined. The bowl and mixture may be hot, so an adult should handle this step.
  3. Mix in powdered sugar gradually. Add a little powdered sugar at a time, mixing as you go. Continue until the mixture forms a dough.
  4. Add the food coloring. Once the dough has formed, add food coloring to reach the color you want. Knead the dough until the color is evenly combined. If the mixture still feels warm, give it time to cool before allowing children to help knead or shape it.
  5. Shape the gum. Roll the gum into the shapes you want, or use a knife to cut it into pieces.
  6. Wrap each piece in parchment paper and let it cool before chewing. Do not offer the gum while it is warm.

Notes

Ensure an adult supervises the process, especially during heating and handling of the mixture. Prepare the work area in advance and assign age-appropriate tasks.
