No reviews

A simple, colorful seasonal display made by combining baking soda, Epsom salt, water, and food coloring, then letting crystals form over several days.

Ingredients

  • Baking soda
  • Epsom salt
  • Food coloring
  • Water
  • A container for growing the crystals

Instructions

  1. In your container, mix baking soda with water until it forms a paste. Add the water gradually so you can control the consistency.
  2. Stir Epsom salt into the baking soda mixture.
  3. Add food coloring and stir until you reach the shade you want. For a rainbow look, divide the mixture among containers and color each one separately.
  4. Leave the mixture undisturbed for a few days while the crystals form. Check on it periodically, but avoid unnecessary stirring.
  5. Once crystals have formed, arrange them into a colorful tree shape. Handle the crystals gently, as their final structure may be delicate.

Notes

This is a crystal craft rather than a washable crochet item. Avoid rinsing or washing the finished display, since water can affect the crystals. Keep it dry and handle it carefully.
