Learn how to make a charming pom pom cat using soft yarn and simple materials, adding a delightful handmade touch to your space.

Ingredients

  • Soft yarn in various colors (acrylic or wool)
  • Scissors
  • Cardboard (for pom pom templates)
  • A small piece of felt (for the nose, optional)
  • A few beads or buttons (for the eyes)
  • A glue stick or hot glue (for assembly, optional)
  • A small cardboard tube (like a toilet paper roll for tail support)

Instructions

  1. Start by cutting two cardboard circles, each about 3 inches in diameter with a smaller circle in the center (about 1 inch).
  2. Take your yarn and wind it around the cardboard circles, going back and forth smoothly.
  3. Once you feel it’s thick enough, take scissors and carefully cut around the outer edge of the yarn.
  4. Take a long piece of yarn (about 12 inches), slip it between the two cardboard circles, and tie a tight knot around the middle.
  5. Gently remove the cardboard, and fluff the yarn ball to encourage it to take shape.
  6. Repeat the process to make two more pom poms for the body of your cat, and one for the tail.
  7. Choose your favorite pom pom to serve as the head and trim into shape if needed.
  8. For the body, stack two pom poms together using glue or tying them with extra yarn.
  9. Attach the remaining pom pom as the tail by inserting it into the cardboard tube.
  10. For personalization, cut a triangle from felt for the nose and glue it on, add buttons or beads for the eyes.
  11. Allow everything to dry and fix any stray yarn ends.
