Create beautiful crayon suncatchers that capture the sunlight and fill your space with vibrant colors and warmth.

Ingredients

  • Crayons (any color, old or new)
  • Silicone molds (shapes like hearts, stars, or flowers)
  • An oven or a toaster oven
  • Parchment paper or aluminum foil
  • A baking sheet
  • A sharp knife (to chop the crayons)
  • An old towel or cloth (to contain the crumbs)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C).
  2. Carefully peel the crayon wrappers off and chop the crayons into small pieces.
  3. Fill each compartment of the silicone molds with crayon pieces.
  4. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  5. Place the filled mold onto the sheet and gently slide it into the oven.
  6. After 10-15 minutes, carefully remove it from the oven.
  7. Let the molds cool completely, about an hour.
  8. Once cooled, gently pop the suncatchers out of the molds.
  9. If desired, punch a small hole at the top of each piece and thread a string or twine for hanging.
  10. Finally, find a sunny window to display your suncatchers.

Notes

This project is a creative way to reuse broken crayons and can be a peaceful activity for all ages. Ensure adult supervision when using the oven.
