Ingredients
- Worsted weight acrylic yarn, 100 to 120 total yards (91 to 110 m) for four jellyfish
- One H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Polyester fiberfill, about 2 ounces (57 g)
- Yarn needle with a blunt tip
- Small scissors
- One stitch marker (optional)
- Tape measure
- Optional 6 mm safety eyes or black embroidery floss for embroidered eyes
- Small amounts of black, white, orange, yellow, green, purple, and gray yarn
Instructions
- Make a magic ring and work 6 single crochet (sc) into the ring. Pull the yarn tail to close the center and join with a slip stitch (sl st) to the first single crochet.
- Round 2: Chain 1, then work 2 single crochet in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch for 12 stitches.
- Rounds 3 through 5: Chain 1, then work 1 single crochet in the first stitch and 2 single crochet in the next stitch, repeating around for each round to finish with 24, 30, and 36 stitches respectively.
- Rounds 6 through 9: Chain 1 and work 1 single crochet in every stitch around, maintaining 36 stitches in each round.
- Round 10: Work 1 single crochet in each of the first 4 stitches, then single crochet two together (sc2tog) for 30 stitches.
- Round 11: Work 1 single crochet in each of the first 3 stitches, then single crochet two together for 24 stitches. Add a small amount of polyester fiberfill now.
- Round 12: Work 1 single crochet in each of the first 2 stitches, then single crochet two together for 18 stitches. Add more stuffing as needed.
- Round 13: Work 1 single crochet in the first stitch, then single crochet two together for 12 stitches. Finish stuffing before closing.
- Round 14: Work single crochet two together around for 6 stitches. Cut the yarn leaving a 10-inch tail, thread it through the front loops of remaining stitches, pull tight and weave in the end.
- Make the ruffle: Join contrasting yarn to the bottom edge, chain 3, work 4 double crochet (dc) in the same stitch, slip stitch in the next stitch and repeat around. Fasten off.
- Make four tentacles: For each, chain 18 (a multiple of 3), then work 2 double crochet in each chain across. Slip stitch the tentacle to the underside of the body, evenly spacing them.
- Add facial details: Sew on safety eyes or embroider them with black floss.
