Crochet delightful Halloween ghosts perfect for seasonal décor. A soothing project to embrace creativity and slow living.

  • Total Time: 360 minutes

Ingredients

  • Yarn: Worsted weight (weight 4, medium), approximately 150 yards (138 meters) total
  • Hook: Size I-9 (5.5 mm) – going up or down half a size is fine depending on your personal tension
  • Yarn Needle: For weaving in ends and any finishing touches
  • Scissors: Sharp scissors
  • Stitch Markers: Optional but helpful for keeping track of your rounds
  • Tape Measure: For checking your gauge and any adjustments
  • Polyester Fiberfill: Around 4 ounces (100 g) to stuff your ghost

Instructions

  1. Make a Magic Ring: Begin by creating a magic ring; chain 2 (this does not count as a stitch) and make 6 single crochets (sc) into the ring. Pull the tail tight to close the ring.
  2. Round 1: 2 sc in each stitch around (12 stitches total).
  3. Round 2: *1 sc, 2 sc in the next stitch; repeat from * around (18 stitches total).
  4. Round 3: *2 sc, 2 sc in the next stitch; repeat from * around (24 stitches total).
  5. Rounds 4-8: Work 1 sc in each stitch around for 5 rounds. After round 8, you will have 24 stitches.
  6. Round 9: Now we start reducing. *2 sc, *(1 sc in the next stitch; repeat from * around (18 stitches total).
  7. Round 10: Continue the pattern with a decrease: *1 sc, 2 sc in the next; repeat from * around (12 stitches total).
  8. Round 11: Start stuffing your ghost with polyester fiberfill. Continue working with *1 sc, 2 sc in the next; repeat until your ghost is well-stuffed.
  9. Round 12: 2 sc, 1 sc decrease; repeat around to bring your ghost together (9 stitches total).
  10. Round 13: Finish with *1 sc all the way around until you hit the last few stitches. Finish stuffing your ghost solidly if needed.
  11. Round 14: Decrease evenly to close up the bottom of your ghost (6 stitches total).
  12. Finalizing: Fasten off, weave in your ends, and if desired, block the ghost lightly for a more polished look.
  13. Add Spooky Features: Use safety eyes or yarn to embroider simple features, as desired.
  14. Display and Enjoy: Put your ghost on display, perhaps on a mantle or beside a pumpkin.

Notes

These finished creations add charm to your home as the air turns crisper. They can be hung out in the living room during Halloween or given as gifts.
