Create a comforting, tactile Needoh using balloons and flour that can serve as a small decorative piece and stress reliever.

  • Total Time: 60 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 latex balloons, 9 to 12 inches each (1 inner, 1 outer)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 small plastic funnel, 1/2 inch opening or smaller
  • 1 wooden skewer, 6 inches long
  • 1 pair of small scissors
  • 1 measuring cup, 1/2 cup size
  • 1 medium mixing bowl, 4 to 6 cups
  • 1 clean kitchen towel, at least 12 by 18 inches
  • 1 disposable glove or reusable kitchen glove
  • 1 sheet of parchment paper, about 12 by 16 inches
  • 1 permanent marker (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cover the table with parchment or a washable cloth before you begin.
  2. Set the bowl on your covered table and place the funnel inside it. Stretch the first balloon over the funnel stem, keeping it low inside the bowl.
  3. Loosen the balloon with your fingers before adding flour.
  4. Spoon flour into the funnel in small amounts, nudging with the wooden skewer until you have added the full 1/2 cup of flour.
  5. Press the air toward the opening of the balloon while keeping the flour inside.
  6. Pinch the neck firmly and tie a tight knot close to the filled portion.
  7. Inspect the inner balloon before adding the outer layer.
  8. Prepare the second balloon by stretching it gently in your hands.
  9. Slide the outer balloon over the filled balloon, working slowly around the knot.
  10. Push the knot area inside the outer balloon as far as it comfortably goes.
  11. Check the shape and make small adjustments as necessary.
  12. Trim only loose balloon tails and wipe the outside with a dry kitchen towel.
  13. Place the finished Needoh on parchment in a cool, shaded spot and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Notes

Ensure to supervise children closely, especially with scissors. The finished piece is not suitable for children under 8 years old.
