This is a small stuffed pumpkin made from a simple crocheted tube that gathers at both ends, perfect for autumn decorations.

  • Total Time: 240 minutes

Ingredients

  • Worsted weight yarn, weight 4 medium, about 170 yards for one pumpkin
  • H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Polyester fiberfill, about 2 ounces (57 g)
  • Yarn needle with a rounded tip
  • Small scissors
  • Stitch marker (optional)
  • Tape measure
  • Small amount of brown or green worsted weight yarn for the stem, about 10 yards

Instructions

  1. Chain 36 to make the foundation chain.
  2. Join the foundation chain into a ring with a slip stitch, chain 1 for the turning chain.
  3. Work 1 single crochet in each chain around, then join with a slip stitch to the starting chain.
  4. Place a stitch marker in the first single crochet of the round and work 1 single crochet in each stitch around.
  5. Repeat this round 14 times, checking that each round contains 36 single crochet.
  6. Begin shaping the bottom: Chain 1, then work 1 single crochet in the first stitch, followed by a decrease over the next 2 stitches.
  7. Repeat around and join with a slip stitch to have 24 single crochet.
  8. Work the next round: 1 single crochet in the first stitch, then 1 decrease over the next 2 stitches. Join with a slip stitch to have 16 single crochet.
  9. Cut the main yarn, leaving a 12-inch (30 cm) tail. Weave it through the front loops of the remaining 16 stitches and pull gently to close the bottom.
  10. Turn the pumpkin so the gathered bottom sits inside and add polyester fiberfill in small handfuls.
  11. Shape the top with your fingers to ensure stuffing reaches the upper edge.
  12. Weave a fresh length of main yarn through the top edge stitches to close the opening and knot securely inside.
  13. For the stem, use brown or green yarn. Attach it at the top center and work 6 single crochet into the closed top area.
  14. Work 3 short rounds of 6 single crochet, joining each round with a slip stitch. Fasten off with a 10-inch (25 cm) tail.
  15. Use the stem tail to create a shallow indentation by pulling gently.
  16. Weave in all remaining ends with the yarn needle and trim.

Notes

This pumpkin is suitable for beginners and can be made in various colors and yarn types. Ensure to check the gauge before starting.
